For the 2021 Halloween season, Mattel has released a new version of their Dia de Muertos sugar skull themed Barbie doll. She’s a collector doll, meant for adult collectors, not kids. I’m thinking she would look fabulous displayed on my mantel this autumn! Love her fancy tiered sugar skull skirt.
Looking at this closeup, you can see the intricate skeleton makeup on Barbie’s neck and chest, and the lovely attention to detail on her Calaveras style makeup. Her crown depicts marigold flowers and skulls, two important symbols of El Dia de Los Muertos.
This year, Barbie won’t go alone to the Sugar Skull parade! She has a date, the 2021 Dia de Muertos Ken doll!
Ken wears an embroidered flowers-and-skulls serape, an embroidered sombrero, a sugar skull belt buckle, and a purple bow tie.
