I think most of us during Halloween are going to be preoccupied with the kids. I know I am, since it is on a Monday this year (darn.) I will be watching some of my nieces and nephews so I want to have as many activities as possible. These Halloween children’s books look like a lot of fun. Most of them will be out later on this year, so keep your eyes peeled!
I think this is going to be an interesting story. The Bone Soup book is about a hungry skeleton who is infamous for his voracious appetite. When he moved to a new town on Halloween, no one would share their food with the forever starving skeleton. So now Finnigin needs to find a way to stir up new ideas to fill his tummy. Maybe there is a message about caring and sharing? Either way, this book has some cute and creepy illustrations that are great for elementary kids. It has a little Tim Burton feel to it.
One of my favorite activities to do with the kids is playing with sticker books. This My Little Book of Spooky Stuff looks like it would be a lot of fun. The stickers look like they come straight from a comic book, and they’re a little sketchy. That kind of edgy and chaotic style gives the book a more eerie feeling rather than cutesy. There are plenty of scary characters in this activity book that the kids will adore.
I remember reading this young adult novel called “Which Witch?” that I really loved reading (in the middle of summer.) This I Want to Be a Witch book reminds me of that book because both stories push against the traditional rules of being a witch. Instead of a creepy, gross, and malevolent witch, this little girl wants to change what a witch should be.
This book is built on a moral code! The book Brunhilda’s Backwards Day is about a witch who always wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. She thrives on being mean and causing suffering for her neighbors. Then one day her cat decides to stir up trouble which turns this mean witch around. She wakes up on the right side of the bed, takes care of herself, and is suddenly generous. Clearly, the message that being a good person is more rewarding, is great for the kids. You can be a good person and still have disturbing thoughts, right?
These brand new books for Halloween on Amazon this year look like they would be a lot of fun. I know my kids would enjoy all of these books, but would yours? Tell me about it down below!
